Neuromas

Ogden Clinic patients experiencing pain in the ball of the foot might have a neuroma. A neuroma is a growth in which the outer coating of a nerve thickens, usually between the third and fourth toes in the ball of the foot. This condition with pain in the ball of the foot is sometimes called Mortons’ Neuroma.

Women who wear high heels or shoes with a very narrow toebox frequently develop neuromas. Using shoe pads or supports may help lessen the ‘pinch’ or pain inside the ball of the foot that a neuroma causes. If the neuroma is painful, local injections or a series of injections may be prescribed by your Ogden Clinic podiatrist. These injections are used to decrease pain in the ball of the foot and deaden the inflamed nerve.
